The controlled A2:A4 values are strings created with TO_TEXT; the VALUE helper in B2:B4 yields the numbers 12, 8 and 5. SUM of the converted helper range is 25. If VALUE produces an error for real imported values, stop and inspect their symbols, separators and locale instead of forcing a conversion or claiming an answer.

## Applicability

The controlled TO_TEXT source is reproducible but only models one imported-text symptom. Real CSV imports may auto-detect numbers. VALUE recognizes number formats that the sheet's locale understands; nonnumeric strings can return an error. Do not silently alter currency or decimal separators.
