Quick answer: In the form editor, choose More > Pre-fill form, enter Harbor Workshop for Project name, leave Your name blank, and click Get link. Verify those values in the pre-fill editor. An unpublished form's responder link cannot be opened; test the link only after intentionally publishing a safe form with reviewed access. Generating the link submits no response.

Generate a fictional registration form link with one project answer pre-filled, then separate the editor check from a published responder-view check. Download the fictional practice and answer check.
Before starting: A pre-filled URL does not submit the form or lock the value. Google Forms requires publication before anyone can access the responder link. This fictional exercise stops at link generation; respondent access and final field state remain unverified until a safe form is deliberately published with reviewed access. Never put secrets in a pre-filled URL.
1. Make a harmless practice form
Create a private form titled Harbor Workshop Registration Practice. Add two Short answer questions: Project name and Your name. The first will receive the fictional value Harbor Workshop; the second stays for the responder. Avoid collecting email addresses or asking real people to test this draft. If you already have a safe practice form, use a copy rather than changing a production registration form.
Checkpoint: Two short answers; Fictional project value; No real respondents.
2. Open the pre-fill route
In the form editor, open the More menu at the top right and select Pre-fill form. Google documents this route. A response-style view opens so you can choose starting values. Enter Harbor Workshop in Project name and leave Your name empty. Do not press Submit in a normal response view; the pre-fill tool has its own Get link action.
Checkpoint: More > Pre-fill form; Enter Project name; Leave Your name blank.
3. Confirm the editor values
Look at the response-style pre-fill editor before generating a URL. Project name should read Harbor Workshop, while Your name remains empty. This establishes the starting values you are about to encode, not the actual respondent experience. The form is still unpublished, so a responder link cannot be opened. Do not call the editor preview a successful end-to-end link test.
Checkpoint: Project name: Harbor Workshop; Your name: blank; Access still untested.
4. Generate and keep the URL
Click Get link, then copy the generated pre-filled URL. Save it in the fictional practice notes rather than sending it. The URL exists, but responders cannot open it while the form remains unpublished. Keep secrets, personal identifiers, and passwords out of pre-filled values because they may appear in the URL. Generating the link creates no stored response; any later access test requires deliberate publication and reviewed permissions.
Checkpoint: Click Get link; Keep URL private; No response submitted.
Check the finished result
The fictional exercise ends with the generated URL and no submitted response. If you later need to verify the respondent view, review the form's publication and access settings first, publish a safe practice copy deliberately, then open its pre-filled URL. Confirm the project value and blank name field, and stop before Submit. Do not invite people or claim that this unpublished demo already passed that test.
Expected answer: In the pre-fill editor, Project name is Harbor Workshop and Your name is blank. Get link generates a URL, but the fictional form remains unpublished, so the responder URL and its final field state have not been tested. No response has been submitted or invitation sent. To verify the actual respondent view later, deliberately publish a safe form with reviewed access, open the generated link, confirm one value and one blank field, then stop before Submit.
If it still fails
If Get link is unavailable, return to the form editor's More > Pre-fill form view and confirm the two field values there. If the generated URL will not open, check whether the form is still unpublished and review responder access before any deliberate test; this exercise does not publish it.
