The fictional practice note contains four instances of Northstar Events. Three describe the current host; the fourth is the historical label Northstar Events 2024. The finished note needs three Cedar Grove Events references and one preserved old-name archive label. Download the answer check to compare the exact result.

1. Make a practice document

Open Word for the web, create a blank document, and paste the text from the download. Work only in this fictional copy. Read each paragraph before editing so you know why the archive line is different.

2. Open basic Find and Replace

Choose Home > Replace, or use Ctrl+H. In Find, enter Northstar Events. In Replace with, enter Cedar Grove Events. Microsoft's Word instructions cover basic replacement in Word for the web.

Select Replace one occurrence at a time. Do not choose Replace All in this exercise: it would also alter the 2024 archive label. The order of matches can depend on your cursor position, so use the surrounding sentence to decide what to change.

3. Change three current references

Replace the name in the opening event-host sentence, the contact sentence, and the closing sign-in-sheet sentence. Skip Archive label: Northstar Events 2024. The archive names a past filing label, not the current organizer.

4. Verify both searches

Find Cedar Grove Events: expect three matches. Find Northstar Events: expect one, in the archive line. Compare the whole edited text with the answer check. If you accidentally changed the archive, undo that one change or restore it from the source file, then check again.

When Replace All is appropriate

Use Replace All only when every occurrence has the same meaning and you have reviewed the result. For names, dates, terms inside quotations, and historical labels, the one-at-a-time route is safer. Word for the web handles basic text replacement; advanced options in desktop Word may differ.
