Can't Delete a Blank Page in Google Docs? Find the Hidden Break

A blank middle page in Google Docs can come from an extra page break. Use a fictional registration note, show non-printing characters, remove only the extra break, and confirm the original text remains.

A blank page between two sections may come from a page break that has no visible words on it. This practice uses a fictional registration note with an extra explicit break. The finish line is no empty middle page, with the registration details and Next Steps still present.

Download the practice document and independent answer check. Open a copy in Google Docs and use Pages mode. DOCX import may alter pagination; if no blank middle page appears, you can recreate the exercise by inserting two consecutive page breaks via Insert > Break > Page break between the details and Next Steps, then follow the diagnostic steps below.

Reveal and remove the cause

  1. Locate Workshop Registration Note, Morgan Lee, Spreadsheet Basics, the date November 18, 2026, and the later Next Steps section.
  2. Choose View > Show non-printing characters. Google says this can reveal page breaks, section breaks, paragraph breaks, and other formatting marks.
  3. Look immediately after the registration details. The supplied DOCX has two consecutive explicit page-break elements. After importing it, inspect what Google Docs actually shows; do not assume the markers survived unchanged.
  4. When you identify the extra page break, click just below it and press Backspace or Delete. Google's page-break instructions use that method. Stop as soon as the empty middle page disappears. Keep the intentional separation between the two content sections if you need it.
  5. Check the answer list: all original content remains and no empty middle page interrupts it.

If the blank page has another cause

Google documents both section breaks and Add page break before as distinct features. Paragraph settings such as Keep with next and spacing can also affect layout. Identify the visible mark or setting first. Repeatedly deleting around a heading can remove content while leaving the actual cause.

FAQ

Why switch to Pages mode? Google's page and section break controls are not available in Pageless mode.

Will the practice always show exactly three pages after import? The original DOCX contains two explicit page-break elements, but Google Docs may reflow an imported document. Judge the result by the absence of a blank middle page and preservation of all original text.

What should remain after the fix? The participant, session, date, and Next Steps sentence listed in the answer check. The document is fictional and safe to edit as a copy.

Source and visual note

Vendor guidance checked 12 October 2026. The DOCX page-break elements were checked structurally, but its exact layout after Google Docs import remains unverified. In a separate native Google Doc with the same fictional content, two consecutive breaks created an empty middle page; showing non-printing characters and deleting one break reduced three pages to two while preserving Next Steps. The packaged DOCX renderer was unavailable, so no imported-page image is claimed. The video uses labelled English illustrative diagrams, not app captures.
